Outward or Inward Opening?
Provided that we offer a bespoke service either opening is available. An outward opening is the most desired option for doors opening into an external area. The outward opening system has 2 main benefits, furniture does not get in the way of opening and closing of doors, and if the weather has been wet the water from the doors won’t drip inside the house when opened.
Most people base this choice on whichever best suits their space. Doors are designed to be either wholly Open In or Out and there is no key benefit from choosing one over the other. It remains a matter of choice only. There are some minor differences:
Glass Type
Standard
Normal glass, that is clear and durable. However, when it breaks it will break into large irregular shaped shards.
Toughened
Stronger than standard glass. It is specially curated to increase strength and safety. When broken it shatters into smaller shards.
Laminated
Strongest than both standard and toughened glass. Laminated glass has a laminated layer within the sealed unit which also helps prevent damages and increases security. The laminated layer makes it increasingly difficult to break into compared to standard and toughened.

What are integral blinds?
SV System
Integral blinds are venetian blinds that are sealed within the glass unit and with the SV system they can be manually operated with a cleverly designed magnetic slider to control the whole operation. The patented magnetic system with raising and tilting function for Venetian blinds encapsulated within 20mm cavity double glazing units. The system is supplied with warm edge spacer bars as standard and all our systems feature the world’s number one integral blind system ScreenLine®.
The SV system provides a slicker overall visual result with no cords on the face of the glass. Like all Uni-Blinds®, the SV sliding system represents the highest quality and operational reliability of any integral blinds. The blind is encapsulated within the two glass panes of a double-glazed unit, with thermal efficiency optimised thanks to a warm edge spacer bar as standard.
The SV system is manufactured in accordance with the highest technical specifications and production standards.
- Closed-loop belt transmission system allows smooth and long-lasting function of the blind
- Meets the requirements of child safety standards
- Only one device is used to raise and tilt the slats
- The patented warm edge spacer bars and the plastic side profile improve the energy performance of the insulating glass unit
- The external magnetic slider is treated with the Sanitized® patented antibacterial finish, which provides a long-lasting protective function
C System
Integral blinds are venetian blinds that are sealed within the glass unit and with the C system they can be operated manually magnetically with a cord that sits on the glass.
With this system, the slat raising, lowering and tilting function is achieved using a rotational magnetic transmission through the glass, thereby guaranteeing the double -glazed unit’s hermetic seal. One set of magnets is inserted in the blind head rail within the cavity and the other applied to the external glass surface. The external magnet, fixed to the internal glass by double-sided high-performance adhesive, allows perfect alignment with the internal magnet. This magnet principle does not compromise the unit seal and guarantees the perfect integrity of the double-glazing unit.
The C system is manufactured in accordance with the highest technical specifications and production standards.
- Suitable for all vertical window applications
- Ideal solution for conservatory shading
- Total privacy and light control for folding sliding doors
- Gives excellent utilisation of partitioned office space
- Suitable for retro installation into existing frames
What are trickle vents used for?
Is your door for an extension?
All habitable rooms require 5000mm sq. of equivalent air.
If you have no other means of venting your room (i.e. a brick vent, mechanical ventilation or another door or window with a trickle vent fitted) then a trickle vent will need to be fitted to your door.
Is your door a replacement?
If you are replacing an existing door and not changing the structural width of your opening then building regulations do not apply.
If the door you are replacing has trickle ventilation already fitted, then it is a requirement that a trickle vent is fitted on the replacement door.
You may choose to have a vent fitted regardless of if being a requirement, to aid background ventilation.
If you choose to have trickle vents on your door it will be cut out into the frame of the door. For all doors under 2000mm one trickle vent is fitted and for all doors over 2000mm two trickle vents are fitted.
Threshold
The threshold is effectively the bottom track of the door. We offer the option of standard threshold (weathered) and low threshold (non-weathered). For external doors, we recommend our standard threshold as this has a small upstand lip which creates a weather tight seal. The low threshold has no lip and can be used to create a flush floor finish. They are recommended for internal doors or doors that are in sheltered areas.
The option for Low threshold with Ramp, is designed to allow wheelchair access. The ramp on both sides allows you to have full wheelchair access inside and out. Some may only get one side and use the ramp externally and have the internal flush so they don’t require both sides. If this is not something you have you will require it for both sides.
External Cill
90mm Sub Cill
The drainage sub cill is found at the bottom of the frame. It protrudes out to allow the water to drip away from the brickwork. When fitted in line with the back of the frame there is a visible overhang of 17mm (for doors) and 20mm (for windows).
150mm Sub Cill
The drainage sub cill is found at the bottom of the frame. It protrudes out to allow the water to drip away from the brickwork. 150mm Sub Cill is the most standard and common sub cill used. The standard size for a normal brickwork aperture is 150mm. When fitted in line with the back of the frame there is a visible overhang of 77mm (for doors) and 80mm (for windows).
180mm Sub Cill
The drainage sub cill is found at the bottom of the frame. It protrudes out to allow the water to drip away from the brickwork. When fitted in line with the back of the frame there is a visible overhang of 107mm (for doors) and 110mm (for windows).
230mm Sub Cill
The drainage sub cill is found at the bottom of the frame. It protrudes out to allow the water to drip away from the brickwork. When fitted in line with the back of the frame there is a visible overhang of 157mm (for doors) and 160mm (for windows).
Our slim line aluminium bi folding doors have been priced to suit all budgets and designed to resonate with all tastes. The immense strength of aluminium facilitates the slim line design of our bi folding doors without comprising durability, appearance or practicality. Aluminium is lightweight so easily manoeuvred and practically maintenance free. Our aluminium bifolds are manufactured from slim thermally broken profiles to ensure maximum glass widths can be achieved using the minimum number of panels. Glass specification is key when affecting the doors’ thermal performance as glass generally accounts for 80% of the surface area of the doors. Our doors include multiple rigid rubber seals and draught excluders to ensure that you get nothing but sunlight passing through your doors. Our bi-folding door system utilises the latest polyamide thermal barrier technology. This advanced profile technology creates a thermal transmittance barrier between the cold outside and the warm inside. This retains heat, reduces condensation and insulates your property from external noise and weather conditions.
We manufacture and assemble all our products in the UK to guarantee quality, compliance and security. In-house manufacture, state of the art machinery and highly qualified staff ensure that the quality of each door that leaves our factories is nothing short of perfection. Our set-up means that we can deliver quality products to you competitive and fast.
